Training for New Skippers

We Offer a Range of Marine Training Services

Whether you’re a brand new skipper and want a little help with learning the ‘port and starboards’ on your new boat or the international buoyage marker system or a previous skipper who wants some additional training, we can help with training for new skippers.

Maybe you just need some pointers on marine radio procedures. A My Deckie commercially qualified skipper offers training to ensure you are confident with handling a big or small boat. You’ll avoid damaging your boat but more importantly, your family and friends remain safe. ($75.00 per hour – most people get enough training benefit over about two hours).

What we can do for you:

  • Recreational Skippers Ticket Assessment
  • Launching and retrieving your boat
  • New skipper training
  • Marine radio training
  • Boat handling in ‘close quarters’
  • Rope splicing/prep fenders & lines
  • Chart reading, navigating by chart and finding your position using ‘Lats & Longs’

Recreational Skippers Ticket

You’d all be aware by now that by 2008 we all had to have a Recreational Skipper’s Ticket in order to drive a boat anywhere in WA!

Recreational Skippers Ticket

The crew here at My Deckie are formally recognised by the Department of Transport, through an Authorised Provider (Yachting WA) as fully qualified trainers and assessors for the Recreational Skipper’s Ticket.

We conduct the Skippers Ticket assessment on our boat (only at Hillarys) or on your boat at any boat ramp around Perth.  Click here to learn more about our RST service.
